At last ( BBC red tape delay), I am pleased to announce the launch of my first CD - "Laura Walsh - The Scouse side of the Moon", on Friday August 7th  approx. 3:00 pm BBC Radio Merseyside, Performance space, 31 Collage Lane, Liverpool, (tel: 0151 708 5500).

The CD contains 18 popular poems (see list below), it was difficult to choose which pieces to record, as so many people have requested to hear so many of my poems again.  I did actually record 20 pieces, however, due to restrictions of space on the CD there was only enough room for eighteen.  I hope, if all goes to plan to create another CD very soon and several more CD's in the very near future.

The CD tracks are:

  1. "No Respect" - Youth culture in todays society, focusing on anti social behavior and offering an alternative path to a life of crime.
  2. "And They Marched" - What is true friendship? What is true bravery? What makes a hero?
  3. "My Ella Rose" - A true story of Bill and Ella. Devoted to each other for 60 years. That is until Ella sadly passed away, leaving Bill a lost and broken man.  What would Bill like to say to his beloved wife?
  4. "Nobody's Daughter" - Written about a young prostitute who was standing waiting to be picked up.
  5. "What price This Man?" - Unemployment due to recession is on the increase and it brings with it feelings of worthlessness, anger and total despair.
  6. "The Beautiful Game" - Love it or loath it, football is our national game, and it seems like it's everywhere.
  7. Working Class Hero" - In 1984 workers from Camel Laird's shipyard in Bikenhead where jailed for standing up for their rights as workers.
  8. "Love Me" - A true story about a 14 year old girl who is rejected by her mother.
  9. "National Pride" - Lose yourself in the exitement and atmosphere of the most famous horse race in the world - The Grand National.
  10. "Doesn't She Know?" - A young man is obsessed with a woman he keeps seeing.
  11. "A Mothers Love" - A true story set in the 1950's of one womans struggle to raise her son who was born with Down's Syndrome.
  12. "La Machine" - In 2008 Liverpool was visited by a huge mechanical 50 foot spider that walked around the city centre.  It was amazing a highlight of the Capital of Culture year.
  13. "Little Shamus" - A humorous tale of the workings of a fridge!
  14. "Double Vision" -  A light hearted poem about poor old Derek.
  15. "Barbara" - Barbara is a very passionate lass and has her eye on the man of her dreams.
  16. "One April Day In Anfield" - a short poignant piece to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster and the memorial service held at Anfield.
  17. "Transition" - This piece was written to mark the end of Liverpool's year as Capital of Culture in 2008.
  18. "Lady Liverpool" - Partly inspired by personal memories of the people of Liverpool.

The booklet /CD cover contains quotes from some well known Liverpool people:

  • Phil Redmond - "Laura was a worthy finalist in the European Capital of Culture project "Now That's What We call Culture" by showing that poetry is still a very powerful force.  It isn't easy to make 10,000 people sit still and pay attention - She did just that.  teriffic stuff."
  • Jimmy McGovern - "I think Laura's stuff is brilliant; funny, moving and very passionate"
  • Billy Butler - "Laura is the most talented poet i have ever worked with.  She has a fantastic gift, truly one of merseysides unique voices"
